Topics Covered in Our Classes
We understand that every pregnancy is unique, so we’ve designed our own unique course to cover a wide range of essential topics, including:
Pregnancy Wellness: Tips on staying healthy and managing common pregnancy symptoms.
Pelvic Health: Understand the importance of pelvic health during pregnancy and learn practical tips for maintaining it.
Understanding Labour and Birth: Learn about the importance of hormones, stages of labour, pain relief options, and the role of your birthing partner.
Hypnobirthing Techniques: Explore breathing exercises, relaxation methods, and affirmations to help you stay calm and focused during birth.
Birth Plans and Preferences: Guidance on creating a birth plan that reflects your wishes.
Feeding Options: We simplify the abundance of information out there about feeding your baby. From breastfeeding basics, breastfeeding positions, and ways to prevent engorgement to what to do if you experience infections like mastitis, we’ve got you covered. We also explore alternative feeding options and provide comprehensive guidance tailored to your needs. This includes options on formula feeding and how to make up formula feeds safely as well as safe sterilising techniques.
Postpartum Preparation: What to expect in the first weeks after birth, including recovery and adjusting to life with a newborn.
Infant Care: Learn the basics of feeding, soothing, and caring for your baby.
Signs of Illness: Recognising when mum or baby may be unwell and knowing what to do.
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Prevention and Safe Sleeping: Evidence based and practical advice for creating a safe sleeping environment for your baby.
The Fourth Trimester: Insights into what the fourth trimester is and how to navigate this important postpartum period.
Perinatal Mental Health: We address the importance of mental health during and after pregnancy, helping you identify resources and strategies for support.
Pregnant Women-Only Time: We provide time at end of class to ask questions in private you might not feel comfortable discussing in front of other participants’ partners.
Interactive and Hands-On Learning
We believe that the best way to learn is by doing! Our classes include plenty of opportunities for hands-on practice, such as:
Practicing breathing and relaxation techniques.
Feeding positions
Massage during labour
Changing nappies
Bathing baby
A Chance to Ask Questions
Have burning questions about labour, birth, or parenting? Our classes provide plenty of time for open discussion, allowing you to address any concerns or uncertainties you may have. No question is too big or too small - we’re here to help.
Building Connections
One of the most valuable aspects of our antenatal classes is the opportunity to meet other expectant parents. Many of our participants form lasting friendships and continue to support one another long after their babies are born. These connections can be a lifeline as you navigate the joys and challenges of parenthood.
Thoughtful Extras
As a special treat, all Stork Beginnings class participants receive a beautifully curated welcome gift. This includes a hand-poured candle and wax melt from The Stirling Candle Company, branded with inspiring pregnancy affirmations. It’s our way of adding a touch of warmth and relaxation to your journey.
