Baby Showers in Scotland: Embracing the Tradition and Choosing the Perfect Gift

Until recently, baby showers weren’t really part of the tradition here in Scotland. They always seemed like more of an American custom — big parties, games, and bundles of baby gifts before the little one had even arrived. But things are changing.
Across Glasgow, North Lanarkshire, and beyond, more families are embracing the idea of baby showers. Whether it's a small gathering over coffee, a surprise afternoon tea, or a full celebration with friends and family, baby showers are becoming a lovely way to support expectant mums, share in the excitement, and make memories before baby’s arrival.
Stuck on What to Bring to a Baby Shower?
It’s a common question — especially if you haven’t been to many before. What do you bring to a baby shower? Some people don’t feel comfortable buying baby items before the birth, especially if the gender is unknown or being kept a surprise. That’s why gifts that focus on mum-to-be are becoming more and more popular.
Pregnancy is a huge milestone, and thoughtful gifts just for mum are a beautiful way to show you care. They’re personal, practical, and give her a well-deserved moment of calm.
Thoughtful Gift Ideas from Stork Beginnings
At Stork Beginnings, we offer a curated selection of pregnancy gifts designed to celebrate the mum-to-be. Here are a few of our most loved baby shower gifts:
This hand-poured candle is a soothing, thoughtful gift that gives mum a chance to relax and unwind. It comes beautifully presented in a gift bag with elegant gold foil "Mummy to Be" lettering, making it ideal for baby showers or gifting before baby arrives.
Our signature pregnancy keepsake box is filled with beautifully chosen items to support and celebrate mum’s journey. It includes space for storing memories like scan photos and bump updates, and makes a perfect keepsake to look back on in years to come. Ideal as a standalone gift or to complement other items.
Perfect for Group Gifting Too
Our keepsake box and gift bundles are also ideal for group gifts — whether it’s from colleagues at work, a group of friends, or members of a prenatal class. Pooling together allows you to gift something extra special that the mum-to-be might not treat herself to, and it’s a lovely way to show collective support.
If you're organising a collection, we can send the gift directly to the recipient or to you to present at the baby shower. Just leave us a note at checkout and we’ll make sure it’s beautifully wrapped and ready to go.
Not Sure What She Needs? Give a Gift Voucher
If you're unsure what mum might like, or want to give her something more practical, our gift vouchers can be used for hypnobirthing and antenatal classes at Stork Beginnings. It’s a great way to offer support for her birth preparation while giving her the freedom to choose a time and format that works for her.
Class participants also receive 10% off our pregnancy gift boxes, so it’s a lovely way to pair education with pampering.
A Local Touch with Introductory Free P&P
We’re based in Scotland and proud to offer local delivery across Glasgow, North Lanarkshire and beyond. To celebrate the growing community of new and expectant parents, we’re offering free postage and packaging for a limited time — no code needed.
Whether you're gifting in person or sending love from afar, your chosen gift will arrive beautifully packaged and ready to make someone's day.
A Personal Note: My Own Baby Shower
I had my own baby shower in 2023 and it was honestly one of the most special days of my pregnancy journey. We hosted it at Browns in Glasgow, and it was absolutely perfect. The venue is beautiful, and the staff were so attentive — everything from the food to the atmosphere was spot on.
The cake deserves its own mention. It was made by Iced by Leah in Kirkintilloch, and it was genuinely the best cake I’ve ever tasted. It looked so stunning we didn’t want to cut it — but we did, and every slice was worth it.
For favours, I went with something a little different — custom baby-shaped tablet from The Tablet Fairy. They were such a hit with guests, and added a lovely Scottish touch to the day. Highly recommend both Leah and the Tablet Fairy if you’re planning a baby shower locally.
Celebrate the Mum, Not Just the Baby
A baby shower is a beautiful opportunity to support a loved one during one of life’s biggest transitions. It doesn’t need to be extravagant — just thoughtful.
